A few weeks ago, I was invited along with two child guests to a menu tasting at Palisade retaurant located in Magnolia. So Parker and her best little buddy, all donned in their City Kid Style Princess dresses, set out on a "fancy" lunch date with me. I say fancy because typically when I think of Palisade, I think of an upscale restaurant, a little pricier than your average casual dining experience. Maybe somewhere you'd want to go for a special occasion or to treat yourself. And until our little lunch date several weeks ago, I would not have thought of it as a place to take kids. But there's a new chef in town and he's out to change the dining experience for kids!
Chef Tom Small recently joined the team at Palisade and with three young children of his own, he decided that the menu options for children needed to be revamped. And in addition, that more of a complete dining experience needed to be in place for children... creating a more positive experience for children and adults!
I'm going to start with the actual children's menu...not the food options but the actual menu! After seven years of dining out with a child, I appreciate a good menu that will keep my child busy. And this one will do just the trick...it has a full page with a coloring picture that has hidden items to find, another page with a maze and tic-tac-toe boards, and a third page with an extensive word search. This menu is sure to keep your child busy way beyond the first 5 minutes!
Then come the drinks....I think all you have to do is look at the picture above-need I say more? What child wouldn't be excited to see that tasty strawberry lemonade in that super fun glass coming their way?!
Next the apetizers. Yes-apetizers for kids! Just like the parents, kids get to choose a "starter." That way they're not jealous when your salad or appetizer comes, or if their food was brought with your salad...they're not completely done and bored by the time your main course comes. They're on your schedule! Children can choose from items like seasonal vegetables, apple slices with caramel sauce, or cheese and crackers.
And for the main course....mini burgers on brioche buns; herb roasted chicken; hawaiian pizza; noodles and cheese (and this is not your typical kraft mac n cheese...it was to die for!); grilled cheese on sliced brioche...as well as several other options. Parker declared that it was the best mac n cheese she had ever had! And her little buddy was feasting on salmon!
There were also several dessert options which included creme brulee and pineapple upside down cake which the girls could not get enough of!
The best part? All of that is only $9 per child. That's right...for $9 your child gets to choose a starter, a main course, a beverage and a dessert. Pretty good deal!
And if that's not enough to keep your child happy there are always the fish to feed in the front lobby, the self playing piano for them to be awed by, or the boats to watch out the window.
So the next time you want to treat your whole family to a special meal...including the kiddos, I'd highly recommend Palisade!
Now I am starving and craving a trip to Palisade...for the children's menu of course! Happy Wednesday!
