A few years ago I got myself this sweatshirt from Free People:
And I wear it all the time. It's comfy and cozy. Perfect for lounging around the house in and perfect to throw over a pair of jeans with some boots. And pretty much anyone who knows that I sew, asks me if I made it when they see it for the first time. And my response is alway "No but it sure would be easy to make!" So I finally did!
I found almost the same soft fabric at my local sewing store. It's a super soft jersey knit that's thicker than a regular knit but thinner than sweatshirt fleece. It took all of about an hour and that included coming up with a pattern. I basically just folded the original sweatshirt in half and traced the seams creating a pattern piece for the arms, the cowl neck and the bodice. I also added a bottom piece and sleeve cuffs and reversed the fabric for those. Here are a few in between pics:
And the finished product:
Dave thought a twirl was in order too (since Parker always twirls in her photoshoots!)
Terrible picture, I know...but it gives you a good view of the top! Anyhow, it's a little on the big side but I'm pretty pleased with it. This is officially the first item of clothing I've ever made for myself! Oh...and do you notice my short hair?! I did that last weekend. And I'm really missing my long hair!
