I've been a crafty little lady the past few days. All due to Parker's Christmas present request. She asked Santa for McKenna from American Girl Doll. She's also had her eye on this fancy bed of McKenna's:
I basically told her that there was no way in hell that this $225 bed (yes...I said $225!) would ever make it's way into our house. So she said that Dave and I could get that for her for our Christmas present to her! Sorry kid...still not happening! So then she suggested we make it! This kid is persistent. I said I'd think about it but made no promises. When I propposed the idea to Dave he just laughed. But good old Etsy came in hand! I found someone on Etsy to make me the bed for a tiny fraction of the cost of the real one. Of course it came unfinished but I decided I could easily handle the rest. So I painted it purple, made the bedding and added a few homemade accessories...and voila:
I think it turned out pretty damn cute! And close enough to the real deal. A few more shots:
I think the guinea pig may be my favorite part....the real bed comes with a hamster...but all I could find was a guinea pic and P likes guinea pigs better anyway. I spray painted the top of an old calico critter plastic box, and turned it into the cage.
I may add a few more accessories...If I have time. We drink out of Bonne Maman jelly jars in our house and while I was in Portland I got some teeny tiny Bonne Maman jellies. I'm going to wash one out so McKenna can have her own little glass just like P. I also might try and get some stickers from P's gymnastics school and turn them into little posters or something. We'll see. If I don't get around to it I think this will certainly do! And I think she'll be pretty surprised because as I said, I made no promises and didn't sound very enthusiastic about the whole idea so I I don't think she's expecting it!
